Home Tour Part 3 ~ Powder Room

Today I am sharing the powder room.  Technically, it should have been the Library (home office),  I didn't clean good enough  but the lighting wasn't wonderful today.  I have been trying to take pictures ahead of time, but the library was left out.  


So here is the little hallway off the Family room and foyer to get to the powder room.  Keep in mind this is a very small room so taking pictures was a bit of a challenge!   The walls are SW Ivorie.

We got the vanity at Lowe's.  It was one of those "all in one" where you get the sink and top as well.  I wasn't crazy about the top that came with it, so we brought the sink and top to our Habitat store.   I had our granite guy cut a remnant he had for this room and he made me the little arch on the back. I LOVE the way it turned out!  Helps with splashes too!   The sink is copper and I found it on Overstock.com. 

I guess I could have straightened the towels better!! ;)

Again, VERY small space so the pictures aren't wonderful.   The florals were from Goodwill and got a make over.  You can see that here.

Ok, now here is a funny story.  On the original plan of this house, there was supposed to be three and a half baths.  And the laundry room downstairs.  Since I am the unpaid cleaning lady here, I did NOT want 3 and a half baths.  So I took one out upstairs and made it my laundry room.  And everyone questioned me why and I will miss the extra bathroom, etc, etc and etc........  So I panicked.  Not enough to leave the upstairs bath (I LOVE MY UPSTAIRS LAUNDRY)  but panicked enough to add this itty bitty shower in the powder room.  Luckily the room behind this had a big closet and it's just an extra room,  So we made the closet smaller and made this lil shower.   It  does get used, so it was a good thing. :)

This was a silk panel (part of a pair) that I found at the thrift store.  They were 63inches, so I couldn't really use them as panels.  So I had my very sweet mama sew the sides "up" so it looked like a london shade.  I LOVE london shades, but wasn't sure I wanted to commit to a custom window treatment in here.  I had the trim in my craft room, so valance was about $7 total!!

And that's it for the powder room!  Here is the hallway you see walking out.  Straight ahead is the kitchen, to the left is the playroom and family room.  And to the right is the foyer.

Home Tour part 2 ~ Dining Room!

As promised, here is part 2 of the tour!  The dining room is off to the right when you come in the front door.  I had this furniture from my old house and I had the chairs redone before I moved because I had 100 yards a lot of this fabric.  Thankfully I still love it!

The walls are good ole Laura Ashley 4, which I had in my old DR too I think, I can't remember, but I know it I had it somewhere.  It's a great medium shade green that really goes with a lot of other greens.   We did the faux molding on the bottom to look like panels to break up the green.   The rug is another Overstock find.  You will find a common theme throughout this tour (if you stick it out, LOL) that I found GREAT wool rugs on Overstock.  Picking colors can be tricky but if you really aren't sure, you can order a small one and send it back if it's not right, just to make sure.

Hutch with all my thrift store, consignment store and freebies.  I love vintage, junk and etc, what can I say? 

I have a love/hate relationship with flash on my cameras.  I took this picture with flash and without.  No flash won....   My mom found the lamp at one of our favorite consignment shops and I got the leopard shade at The Christmas Tree shop for $6.99.  I actually bought two, there is another one later on in the tour. ;)

Hutch again

I love tole.  I have some in my kitchen and some in my DR.  I don't think I have ever paid more than $10 for any of them.  Most of my trays were $2.99 at the thrift store.  This is a shot of the whole wall.

This was a china cabinet in my old house.  But I had my open hutch (which is now on the opposite wall) in my parents barn, waiting to be used for literally years.  While I did love the china cabinet, I really needed a buffet.  So I took the top glass part off and donated it.  Voila!  Instant buffet!

Still need a center piece here.  No clue what I want.  I drive myself crazy with these things.  I think I need a leopard chandy chord too!

The "BLANK" wall.  I'm still not sure what I am doing here, but the ideas are a'swirling.  I'm going to leave it with nothing until I decide.  Could be a long, looooonnnngggg time!  Any ideas?  I'd love to hear them!   I am also going to cover the chandy shades with leopard fabric.

The rods were all pieces I have collected over the years, brackets, finials, reeded rods and rings.  All at thrift stores and garage sales for literally pennies.   I spray painted them all black so they were uniform.  It's the little things that excite me.

My Home Tour ~ part 1 Foyer

Well, it's been awhile.....  I have been busy non-stop.  Family, kids, horses, events and friends.  Again I am reminded of enjoying each moment we have here on earth.   I just need some lessons in time management!


  And I have decided that I HAVE to start my house tour on here!  In three weeks, it will be a year that we have lived in our house.  So it's time!


I am going to try to do this from the front door on.  So we'll start with the foyer and go from there.  Sound good? Hopefully that's a faint yes I hear!   So without further ado (yes I looked that up to make sure I was spelling it right!)    Here is the start of my very own Home Tour!

Chandy that my cousin sent me, it had amber glass and I changed it all to crystal from an online lamp parts source.  My sweet cousin also purged her ceiling medallion which I quickly scarfed up!

Collection of canes, umbrellas and odds & ends!  I found this cute bamboo stand in the thrift store.  One of my favorite places to shop!

I had this frame for probably 8 yrs, sitting waiting to be used in the basement of my old house.  Found a use quickly here!  I found this cute little table at one of my favorite consignment shops and spray painted it red.  I had credit from bringing things there, so free! :)

The Fair and being unplugged

Every year we go to the "Fair".   I think the first time my parents brought me I was 2 years old and we have been going ever since.  So of course this tradition has carried over to my children.  The boys' first trip was when they were 8 months old.  And Madi's first trip she was about 4 weeks old.  It's just something we do every year. We bring Mema and Papa with us every year too.   The kids love seeing the animals and of course the rides.  And my all time favorite, funnel cake! Yummmmm

I have been without a phone  now for a few days and honestly, I don't miss it.  Is that strange?   My phone broke and I have 1 month left on my contract.  Let me give you a little back round.   I did not have a cell phone until 2 years ago.  My husband surprised me with an iphone.  While I loved the gesture, and it was convenient to text or call when I needed to, the $106 bill always made me cringe.    I can think of so many other ways to spend $106 and a cell phone isn't one of them. I was on the lowest minute plan they offered (450 mins) and I ALWAYS had more than 1000 rollover minutes!    My family is insisting I need a phone and I can understand their reasoning.    I think I'm going to get an "unlocked" phone and just do a $25 plan from Virgin Mobile or Straight Talk.  It will allow me 300 mins and unlimited texting and Internet use.    Do any of you use this type of service?  

  I also deactivated  my Facebook account.   It was for a few reasons, but nothing really big.   I feel FREE for some reason.  I think I just like the "unplugged" feeling.  Who knows maybe I'll go back, but maybe not.   I miss being able to text my favorite southerner whenever I want.   But other than that I can't think of reasons I love it.  I'm not much of a tv watcher, I probably watch an hour of tv every month or so.  I make up for it on the computer, that I am sure of!     Since when have we as a society need to be in constant communication?  Maybe I'm just behind the times........

I'm alive and a sneak peek :)

Yup, I'm guilty, GUILTY of pretty much abandoning this blog for a few months!  Not only was I busy setting up house here on the new home-front.  But Blogger has been making me crazy for months as well.  Is anyone else having the commenting problem?   I try to comment on blogs, it makes me sign in, I see my dashboard, go to comment again and it makes me "anonymous"  Can you say FRUSTRATING?


 Anyway, it's been a very busy and fun summer here!  We have had our favorite Southerners here already.  Just wouldn't be summer without them. :) Then we had summer camp, horse camp and a few more activities to go.  A day trip here and there.

We also landscaped.... however,  that deserves a post of its own!!!  When I say "we" I mean, John and I, no other help.  Luckily we work well together!

I have been decorating and feathering our new nest.  I'm the type of person that I can only do these things while I'm feeling creative.  I simply cannot force it.  I'm all or nothing.  

So here is a sneak peek of the keeping room, which is right off the kitchen.  This room has functioned like I imagined it would, I can't tell you how that makes me SO HAPPY!  

I have learned this.........

What I have been up to......

I know, I know, I have been bad and haven't shown any pictures of the new house.  Here is a tease of the kitchen cabinets! ;)     I got my new riding boots and they are like BUTTA!  Very soft and NO break in time!  I did my first show last weekend and was Reserve Champion!   I think I uploaded the video (I hope!)   I am hopefully showing this week in the St Clement's horse show in Saratoga.  Can you say EXCITED?????  I feel  like a kid again!

I'll be back, with house pictures, I PROMISE!!! :)
