Door hardware

This subject has been on my mind, my google images and downright driving me crazy!  I thought for sure I wanted Oil Rub Bronze, I have them now in my house and love that they show NO finger prints at all.   We changed them out over a year ago from having bright brass that was pitting and showing everything.

However, when I started looking at the plethora of choices, my head started spinning.  And I started second guessing myself.   And when I start second guessing, then I know I'm in a downward spiral of comparison shopping and it doesn't end until I have made a decision!   So I have come here to beg ask your help!

Ok so, the first dilemma  choice is the actual handle.  I'm 97% sure I want levers.  I always love how "french" they look.  I had them in my very first home and always wished I had them here.  However, I am free to drive you crazy change my mind...

Ok, I'm 93% sure I want the first one (which is the elan scrolly looking one).   I don't love the backplate on the birdcage one, but that can be changed (free of charge with your order).  I do really like this reed and ribbon knob, but wonder if it's too "fancy schmancy" for my home...........

Ok, now onto finishes.   Here is where I go back and forth, round in circles and back again........

oil rubbed bronze

french antique

Pewter

flat black

And here are the doors that they will be hanging on.........

I'd love to hear your feedback!  Since I have driven my poor husband, mother and sister insane with this, I figured I'd let you all in on the torture fun too!

XOXO

Kristi, you are getting the same doors my daughter has and I love them. I am partial to the orb right now. We did like you did and changed all our brass ones out last year, too. I had the brass levers and switched to the oval or egg shaped ones this time. I love the almost vintage look of them.

Good luck!

I love the orb also! :) My personal preference is for the egg shaped also, (love the shape of the one in the flat black) but go with your gut instinct. Anything you choose will be lovely. Have fun... don't stress out too badly, after all, it's just a door handle ;)

Hi sweet girl! Popping in over here brings back such fun memories of when we did our house!

I used the lever downstairs and the egg shaped knob upstairs...I couldn't decide either so I used both;)! I also used the satin nickel finish...I still love it...but I am also really enjoying the oil rubbed bronze. I can't wait to see what you use!

Enjoy!

Such fun dilemmas ! When we did our reno I literally obsessed over these details - it was fun ( sort of ! ).

I used levers on the third floor and on the elevator doors and gym doors. These are the main rooms that J #1 uses and they are easier for him. In my mind ( and situation ) the levers are handicap accessible knobs. The rest of the house has traditional knobs. I went with pewter, but do like the oil rubbed ones too. I guess it depends on the colors of the doors... ours are purple obviously !

Enjoy the journey, I definitely am enjoying it through the blog !

thanks for sharing,

Kristi, I do know exactly what you're going through. When we were remodeliung this house, every decision - big or small became a major deal for me. I knew this was my "forever" home, and whatever I put in, I was going to have to love. Our interior doors have the bronze knobs. I'm like you, I love that nothing shows on them. Whatever you pick will be wonderful, and I can't wait to see! laurie

We have ORB door handles on most doors too. I wish we would replace all the doors in this place... soon!

Gosh, I don't know! They're all so beautiful. I guess I'd pick the handle in ORB as my favorite. I would be stressing over it too!

Oh my gosh! No wonder you're overwhelmed! I am too. So many gorgeous choices. I surprised myself by even loving the french antique finish! I like the idea of using levers and knobs in the same house. Maybe knobs on bedroom and baths or on the 2nd floor and levers everywhere else? I've always liked levers. I love the flat black finish a bit more than the oil rubbed bronze but other than that I'm of no help to you.

Wow! You have a very good taste in designs and styles. It is nice to know that you still have time to do it yourself. Some people are too busy with work that's why they just purchase door hard wares online and leave the installation to the experts.
