Inspiration...
On my last blog post I had a sweet comment about how she thought my home looked like a Mary Kay Crowley painting. And boy did she ever guess my inspiration right! I can't remember where I first saw one of her (MKC) painting's. But I remember falling in love! And then I saw how much they cost and decided I woudn't need any, LOL! Her originals go for insane amounts of money.
Over time, I found some of her lithio's on boards on ebay for pretty cheap. The one day walking in Marshall's I found a BIG (24x36) MKC painting for 29.99 and then yet ANOTHER one (18x24) for 29.99. I framed them and I have never grown tired of them.
I certainly can appreciate MANY other decorating styles. And LOVE to see how other people decorate their homes. But I am truly a French country, cottage, vintagy girl at heart! I LOVE color, especially red. It makes me happy just looking at it! And I think my new home will be decorated very much like the home I am in now. I know some people like a "clean slate". And I do understand it. But I have found what makes me warm and fuzzy inside and I'm sticking to it!
This one below, I found the frame at a yard sale for $3 and it was brown, plastic and hideous! I painted it gold, then outlined it with black and then put a grayish white glaze on the gold I had painted. I think it turned out pretty cute!
My home has many "hand me downs" from my parents whose home was decorated very French Country when I was growing up. Things they got tired of over the years, I gladly took off their hands. I have some favorite pieces that I have found while thrifting or yard saling. I also have found some wonderful treasures on Ebay.
I am linking up to Favorite Things Saturday at BHWL!
What makes your heart sing? What inspires you? I'd love to know!
XOXO
love that you've found your style and it makes you warm and fuzzy. You have a beautiful home.....
ReplyDeleteKristi, I love how you have stayed so true to what you love while I feel like my style is still evolving. I had forgotten about MKC. Love her pictures and they look just right in your home.
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is my first visit to your blog, and I can see I'm going to have to look around. I love those prints, and wish I could have that style in my home too, so I know I'm going to love your home. I'm so glad you linked these fabulous pictures to Favorite Things. laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Kristi!
ReplyDeleteI love those pieces and had no idea who the artist was. I've seen that one on the bottom before and loved it. I will certainly have to make a trip to TJMaxx/Marshalls this week to see if my stores have any. They are just gorgeous!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I'm going to have a look around yours and I'm sure I'm going to love it!

I want some of her prints too and sure wish I could find them for fairly cheap like you have! I read that you were building a new home and wondered if you would stick with French country or go in a different direction. I have kept my look (roosters, toile, checks, red, etc.) for probably about 8 or so years now. I have thought many times about something different, but I just love the colors and warmth of French country and have decided to stay with it. I gotta have color and pattern! I hope you'll continue to post pics of your home 'cause I want to see more and get ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love those paintings. You and I like the same styles and gotta have me some red in my house.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of MKC, but I love, love those paintings/prints. Just perfect...I am off to google some!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have loved Country French since long before it was cool. I don't have much of it in my decor, but I get little pieces when I can.
Where in the Northeast are you?
Janet
Love those paintings! MKC is my style too! Gota have my reds! Nancy
